Criminal Justice IT Compliance

Criminal Justice organizations make up a large part of our Federal, State and Local Governments. As such, they are also a large consumer of IT. But do they have the same security standards as other agencies for IT services?

I refer you the CJIS v5.0 - Criminal Justice Information Services version 5.0. This policy and procedure was developed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for use by law enforcement organizations to help enable them to move their IT operations to the cloud and also to a more mobile friendly environment. The policy contains security requirements, guidelines and agreements reflecting the will of law enforcement and criminal justice agencies for protecting the sources, transmission, storage and generation of Criminal Justice Information.

Today, not only are Federal law enforcement agencies utilizing this, but State and Local organizations as well. It is critical for all law enforcement organizations to make the leap to the cloud and secure their IT infrastructure before it's too late. As we see a push to the “cloud” era, this policy will become more and more relevant to IT contractors wanting to do business with law enforcement agencies.
