After years of anticipation, NASA announced the initial SEWP VI contract awards in June 2026, marking the next generation of one of the federal government's top IT acquisition vehicles. While the ordering period does not officially begin until November 1, 2026, now is the time for both contractors and technology providers to understand what SEWP VI is, how it differs from SEWP V, and how they might be able to get involved.

What Is NASA SEWP VI?
NASA SEWP VI, which is short for Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement VI, is a Government-Wide Acquisition Contract (GWAC) managed by NASA that provides federal agencies with a streamlined way to purchase commercial Information Technology, Communications (ITC), Audio/Visual (AV), cloud, cybersecurity, and related professional services.
We throw out the term GWAC because although the vehicle says “NASA” in the title, it’s government-wide and available for use across all federal agencies. Each SEWP VI contract has a 10-year ordering period running from November 1, 2026, through October 31, 2036, with a maximum individual contract value of $20 billion, providing agencies with a long-term acquisition solution for evolving technology needs.
Who Can Purchase Through NASA SEWP VI?
Like we mentioned above, although NASA manages SEWP VI, the contract is not limited to NASA purchases. SEWP VI is available to all federal agencies, including civilian agencies, the Department of Defense (DoD), and other authorized federal organizations. Examples of agencies that frequently used SEWP V include:

NASA SEWP VI Scope
One of the most significant updates in SEWP VI is its expanded scope to services across the B and C categories. We’ll go deeper into the categories below.
SEWP VI will allow for multiple contract types including Firm Fixed Price, Time and Material, Labor Hour, Fixed Price Award Fee, Fixed Price Incentive Fee, Fixed Price Economic Price Adjustment, or any hybrid of commercial contract types for orders. The contract will also have small business set-aside opportunities at the order level for each category.

Category A: ITC/AV Solutions
Category A focuses primarily on Information Technology, Communication (ITC) and Audio Visual (AV).
The technical areas in this contract include:
- IT computer systems/computer facilities
- IT Storage Systems
- Networking and communication equipment
- Imaging equipment and supporting technology
- IT power and cabling equipment
- Audio/visual equipment
- Security and sensor equipment
- Software and cloud technology
- Product-based services
Category B: Enterprise-wide ITC/AV Service Solutions
The Category B scope provides customized Enterprise-Wide Strategic Solutions, defined as a large-scale requirement involving multiple departments, locations, customers, and/or field offices for a given agency.
Technical areas in Category B include:
- Enterprise-wide network services
- IT managed services
- IT service management
- Enterprise service program integration
- Enterprise-wide information and data analytics services
- Enterprise-wide application services/software development
- Enterprise-wise cybersecurity services
- Enterprise-wide cloud services
- Program management/ancillary services and supplies
Category C: ITC/AV Mission-Based (Information Technology Communication (ITC) and Audio Visual (AV)) Services
Category C includes more specialized professional services that help agencies design, implement, and support mission-critical technology environments.
Technical areas in this section include:
- Innovation services
- Information and data analytics services
- Application services/software development
- Cybersecurity services
- Cloud services
- Digital multimedia and technical communication services
- IT operations and maintenance/help desk/call center support
- Network services
- Database services
- In-scope training
- Program management/ancillary services
How Is SEWP VI Different from SEWP V?
While SEWP V has successfully served federal agencies for more than a decade and continues to do so for a few more months, SEWP VI has a few significant changes.

What Does SEWP VI Mean for Companies That Didn't Receive an Award?
If you’re reading this and wondering if you missed out on a prime opportunity, receiving a prime contract award is not the only way to participate in SEWP VI. Many manufacturers, software publishers, and technology providers can sell through SEWP by partnering with authorized contract holders. On the bright side, partnering with an existing contract holder can be significantly faster than waiting for the next major contract competition, or for another iteration of SEWP which will be 10+ years.
