As of January 9, 2023, the Small Business Administration (SBA) has begun accepting applications for Veteran Small Business Certification. This certification process used to be done through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), but as part of the federal government’s commitment to strengthen interagency collaboration, it has been moved over to the SBA since they handle all the other socioeconomic contracting programs for small businesses. After a break from what seemed like a deluge of Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) Solicitation Refreshes, GSA has announced MAS Refresh #15. On January 18, 2023, GSA plans to release Solicitation 47QSMD20R0001 - Refresh # 15 and subsequent Mass Modification (Mass Mod). Once the Mass Mod is released, contractors will have 90 days to review and accept this modification.

One of the requirements GSA Schedule contractors tend to worry about the most is the minimum sales requirement. Under this requirement, contractors must generate $25,000 in sales within the first 2 years, and $25,000 every year thereafter. This can seem like an intimidating number, especially for some smaller businesses that aren’t used to reporting $1 million in commercial sales each quarter. Working with the General Services Administration (GSA) can be difficult. Many times, the information contractors need is already out there in the universe, released by GSA, but the trick is knowing where to find it. One of our specialties as GSA Schedule consultants is pinpointing the right resources for our clients and helping them learn how to use those tools. One of the most underutilized GSA tools is the Contract-Awarded Labor Category, or CALC, tool. When you receive your GSA Schedule contract award, you are not entering into a binding document, but rather a contract that will live and breathe with your company. As we know, a lot can happen in 20 years, from technological advancements to changes in company personnel and updates to your products or services. This is where GSA Schedule modifications come in.
