While the GSA Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) acquisition process can be a long and drawn out process, the work doesn’t end once your Schedule has been awarded. GSA Schedules have a potential life span of 20 years (four 5-year option periods), so it’s rare that a contractor’s GSA Schedule offerings, Special Item Number (SIN) selections, administrative information, etc. remains the same throughout the life of the contract. GSA Schedule contract holders can update or change essentially every part of their contract throughout its existence through a modification. Contractors reviewing the latest update to the Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) Solicitation under Refresh #23 will notice that many of the changes are technical updates regarding templates and modification guides. If you have a GSA Schedule or have worked with the federal government in any capacity, you have undoubtedly heard the term “NAICS Code” referenced before. But what exactly is a NAICS Code? And what is the relevance to GSA Schedules? NAICS stands for North American Industry Classification System, established in 1997 to create a standard for statistical agencies in Mexico and Canada. The purpose of creating this specific classification system was to create a universal North American standard and provide a platform by which federal statistics agencies could better analyze and publicize the collection of statistical data related to the US economy.
